BLOUBERGSTRAND ATTRACTIONS
|
Blouberg beach
West Coast Lodge is in Bloubergstrand also known as Blue Mountain famous for its endless white sand beaches and some great rock pools to explore. Blouberg beach is known for its consistently strong winds making it the perfect location for the tricks and aerobatic skills of kite boarders and wind surfers. The beach is big and has plenty of space to accommodate participants of all watersports. When the wind is calm Blouberg beach is a great place to relax. Blouberg beach is situated between Big Bay and Table View beach. From the beach you can look out into Table Bay, Milnerton, Table View and Robben Island.
Table View Beach
Table View Beach has numerous parking areas along the road just next to the beach. The beach is also exposed to wind making it an ideal location for Kite boarders and surfers. Table View, as its name suggests, offers superb views of Table Mountain as well as Robben Island and Table Bay. Table View Beach is located just 4 km from West Coast Lodge and offers a number of great venues for eating and drinking.
Robben Island
Robben Island can be viewed from the beaches in Table Bay and is only 12km from the nearest point on the West Coast main land. This Island contained the Maximum Security Prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated during the South African Liberation War. Daily tours to the island include the ferry trip there and back, an island tour and a tour of the prison with a former political prisoner as your guide. Allow three and a half hours for the trip (this includes the 1/2 hour ferry trip each way) and book in advance. Ferries leave at regular intervals throughout the day from the Clock Tower precinct at the V&A Waterfront
Table Mountain
Less than 30km from West Coast Lodge there is the world renowned and wonderful Table Mountain. Access to the mountain top can be gained by using the cable car or walking up one of the numerous footpath routes. From the mountain you are treated to exceptional panoramic views of Cape Town and Table Bay.
The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront
Located a short 20 minute drive from West Coast lodge is the famous Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. This is the perfect place to unwind and wander around taking in the atmosphere of the harbour. There are plenty of restaurants and bars available to have a relaxed lunch or romantic evening dinner. It is worthwhile having tea at the Table Bay Hotel to relax and unwind in their opulently appointed tea room. Recommended parking is in the Clock Tower underground car park, which is less well known to tourists and easier to access from the West Coast area.
